The Department of Medicine Osler Residency Program offers many opportunities for residents to use elective time for Away Electives. Over the years, housestaff have gone to many national and international clinics including, American Indian Reservations, Africa, Australia, India and Ireland.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Obtain permission from Dr. Charlie Wiener, program director
• Complete SOM Request for Elective Rotation form (Word doc)
  (This approval process may take ~2 months as additional Dean's signature is required)
  
• Provide Dr. Wiener with information on how this elective will contribute to your education
• Upon return from your trip, complete the Away Elective form (Word format) and share your experience by presenting your trip at one of our noon conferences (PowerPoint presentation to include photos of your trip); Conference to be arranged with your ACS

VACCINATIONS:

Vaccinations are not covered by the Housestaff Insurance policy; however, vaccinations may be obtained at

• Travel Clinic (JHOC 8, x5-2719)
• and may be covered by University Health Benefits (Carnegie 144, Darnell Williams, x5-3872)
